Station Plaza

Located at a transit hub in Downtown Jamaica in Queens, Station Plaza sits at the intersection of Archer Avenue and Sutphin Boulevard, serving as a hub and a shopping and employment destination.

Station Plaza is a project that was first identified in the Jamaica 2007 Rezoning Plan and later reaffirmed as a community priority in the 2015 Jamaica Now Action Plan. NYCEDC is working with the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), to improve pedestrian safety, reduce traffic congestion, and improve conditions for the more than 18,000 daily transit users that pass through Station Plaza—turning this critical intersection into a vibrant transit plaza.

The project will achieve this through:

• Widening sidewalks and creating a new pedestrian plaza
• Realigning Archer Avenue at the intersection of Sutphin Boulevard
• Relocating a subway entrance from the sidewalk to the East Plaza
• Improving traffic flow
• Upgrading lighting, signage, and utilities

A Transit and Commercial Hub

Station Plaza is in Downtown Jamaica at the crossroads of 13 bus lines, two subway lines, the Long Island Railroad (LIRR), and the Air Train service from John F. Kennedy International Airport to the LIRR.

Downtown Jamaica is a shopping and employment destination with numerous government buildings, including Queens Civil Court and Queens County Family Court. The many commercial spaces on Sutphin Boulevard and nearby Jamaica Avenue are home to small businesses that provide neighborhood-serving retail and groceries.

Project Team

NYCEDC has selected an expert team of transportation planning, engineering and design consultants led by VHB Engineering, Surveying, Landscape Architecture and Geology, P.C to develop a design that includes engagement from the public and stakeholders and enable the transformation of this intersection into a vibrant transit plaza.
