NYCEDC released a Request for Proposals to activate vacant industrial sites owned by the City in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens, including a site in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. In 2014 Ferrara Bros. was selected to re-develop the site located at 24th Street and Third Avenue. Ferrara Bros. is a ready-mixed concrete company which has operated concrete plants in Brooklyn and Queens continuously since 1969. As a recognized leader in the industry, Ferrara Bros. has provided concrete for numerous New York City projects, such as Second Avenue Subway, NYC Water Tunnel No. 3 and many World Trade Center projects including all of the concrete for the 9/11 Memorial.
Ferrara Bros. will build a state-of-the-art concrete manufacturing batch plant to supply construction sites across the City with concrete. The Project also includes a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station that Ferrara Bros. will use to fuel its fleet of CNG trucks.
Ferrara Bros. will relocate from their current site in Gowanus to Sunset Park. The Project will bring nearly $15 million in investment to Sunset Park and retain 50 manufacturing jobs.
Demolition of the existing buildings is expected to begin in Spring 2016, followed by construction of the new plant. Ferrara Bros. plans to begin operating the new concrete plant in Fall 2016.
