Urban Future Lab
The Urban Future Lab is New York City’s premier facility for the cleantech and energy community, supporting company formation and showcasing innovation.
In June 2013, NYCEDC announced plans to develop the Urban Future Lab, a groundbreaking facility designed to assist clean technology and energy entrepreneurs with the unique challenges they face in starting and growing a business in New York City.
NYCEDC partnered with New York University's Polytechnic School of Engineering to design and operate the 10,000 square foot facility that concentrates activities and services in order to further develop collaboration, innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship in New York City.
Urban Future Lab is located at 15 MetroTech in the heart of the Brooklyn Tech Triangle, an area experiencing tremendous growth in innovation and next-generation tech entrepreneurs.
The Urban Future Lab opened its doors in March of 2014.

The Urban Future Lab is a multi-use space devoted to three primary functions:
- Business incubation
- Product demonstration and exhibition
- Educational programming and workshops
The incubator houses up to 20 startup companies focused on energy efficiency, climate adaptation, resilience, and other technologies that are helping cities become smarter and more sustainable.
The demonstration center hosts a variety of temporary exhibits that bring the vision for livable cities and smart buildings to life. It is also home to the Urban Future Lab’s educational classes and events, consultations, topical symposia, technology mock-up exhibits, and a platform for incubator tenants to showcase their technologies and products to investors and other interested parties.
Finally, the Urban Future Lab is a destination for NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering's robust K-12 STEM programming, including its existing “Science of Smarter Cities” curriculum.
