NYCEDC Announces NYCxDESIGN 2017 Dates
New York City’s celebration of global design will run from May 3-24, 2017
NYC design industry is a major economic driver of the City’s economy generating over $500 million in City tax revenue annually
New York, NY – The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today announced that NYCxDESIGN 2017 will run from May 3rd – 24th. The fifth annual celebration of global design will increase from two to three weeks for 2017. The extended program for 2017 will allow for expanded programming in venues throughout the City with more details to be released later this year.
NYCxDESIGN 2016 featured over 500 events throughout the five boroughs including the Design Pavilion at Astor Place Plaza and the first annual NYCxDESIGN Awards, presented by Interior Design magazine and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) Awardees consisted of companies and design leaders who excelled in design fields such as urban design, fashion, architecture, technology, public space projects and more. Key NYC Design Industry Statistics
The New York City metro area is home to over 50, 000 designers - making it one of the largest numbers of practicing designers in the world and more than any other metro area in the U.S., more than Los Angeles and Chicago combined. On average, those employed in the design sector earned $103,800 a year, which indicates substantial opportunities for income mobility.
With 7,580 design establishments located throughout the five boroughs, New York City is an international hub for top design firms that generate over $555.1 million in City tax revenue annually. Additionally, New York City is home to 10 prominent design and architecture schools and graduates twice as many design and architecture students as any other city in the U.S.
NYCxDESIGN, New York City’s official citywide celebration of design will run from May 3-24, 2017. Spanning all disciplines of design, NYCxDESIGN creates a collaborative platform for cultural and commercial opportunities, elevates established and emerging design practices and increases awareness of and appreciation for design by all audiences. Hosted in New York City, NYCxDESIGN brings together all the disciplines of design, commerce, culture, education, and entertainment with a full, varied program, including exhibitions, installations, trade shows, talks, launches and open studios. 2016, the fourth year of the celebration, featured over 500 events across the five Boroughs of New York City and included topics from graphic design to architecture, technology and urban design to fashion and product design, interiors to landscape, furniture to design thinking, and more. The program is overseen by NYCEDC together with a Steering Committee comprised of leaders and leading institutions across most design disciplines.
