New York City's Design Economy
From May 9th to May 20th, NYC celebrates its many creative assets during NYCxDesign, the city’s 2nd annual Design Week. The 12-day celebration coincides with a report released last week by the Center for an Urban Future that states that NYC leads the nation in the number of design firms. With 65% more designers than any other metro area in the U.S., and employment at city design firms increasing by almost 10% since the 2008 recession, NYC’s status as a design capital is rising.
NYCEDC is honored to support NYCxDesign's diverse showcase of design disciplines that include commerce, culture, education, and entertainment. As a member of the Advisory Panel for NYCxDesign, we're excited to help raise the profile of NYC's growing design economy. With hundreds of exhibits, studio visits, and talks taking place across the five boroughs, check out NYCxDesign's events and get inspired!
design100 Awards Programs
This year's NYCxDesign includes an awards program called the New York Design Awards, as part of the design100 City Design Awards platform. New York is the first city in North American to be chosen to launch the award program.
The awards will recognize organizations across an extensive range of categories. A few nominations include projects and programs we proudly support, including former BigApps winners, participants in our Next Top Makers program, and NYCEDC-related development projects.
Good luck to the following NYCEDC-affiliated entries up for nomination:
You can also check out some more inspirational submissions on the New York Design Awards website.
We think New York City is a pretty inspirational place for design. What do you think? Are there other cities that inspire as much design creativity?
