Ice Skating Rinks in NYC
by Kristina Pecorelli, Economics Research and Analysis Project Manager
While New York City continues to face blustery, cold, and snowy weather, it's easy to forget all of the fun cold-weather activities around the city. Whether you’re looking to switch up your post-New Year’s exercise routine or are in search of a romantic setting for a winter date night, New York City’s outdoor skating rinks—scattered throughout the five boroughs—-offer an enjoyable way to weather the cold while taking in some of the city’s most breathtaking skyline views.
Many skaters have turned to the new LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park as their rink of choice. Since the highly anticipated opening of the $74 million skating facility on December 20th, 2013, the New York Daily News reports that the LeFrak Center has attracted more than 40,000 skaters, with an impressive 2,500 visitors turning up on opening weekend.
Although the ice rink at Rockefeller Center is a particularly iconic winter experience, there are 15 other skating options shown on the map below (indoor rinks in light blue, outdoor rinks in dark blue). Get your figure eights in this season!
