In November 2015, New York City released a 10-point action plan to modernize the industrial sector. The plan promised to launch a new state of the art Advanced Manufacturing Center, protect core industrial areas from encroachment, provide loans and grants for new firms, and train New Yorkers for 21st century manufacturing jobs. Futureworks NYC is a key component of the plan to invest in the long-term development of industrial and manufacturing businesses by targeting investments to create and rehabilitate affordable, modern industrial space, while also providing key support services that these businesses need to start, grow, and thrive in the five boroughs. While the City has worked to support manufacturing businesses, there are still barriers to bridging the accessibility of innovation and emerging technologies to these businesses in NYC. Current manufacturing firms in the City are aware of these new technologies, but are not well-positioned to adopt these new systems. Similarly, emerging entrepreneurial communities are increasingly frustrated by the limitations of the information and services to meet their needs. To assist these companies, NYCEDC has entered into a series of contracts with a number of consultants to launch Futureworks NYC, a set of program services, in order to support the ability for established and emerging manufacturing companies to scale production. Through Futureworks NYC, NYCEDC seeks to catalyze these new technologies, support their adoption and establish New York City as a leader in advanced manufacturing. Futureworks is comprised of four key programs. See below to learn more!
