On average, a high school student receives only 38 minutes of guidance or career counseling over their entire high school career. PENCIL works with educators and students across the five boroughs to help students develop the college and career readiness skills they need for a 21st century economy. Their big idea is to connect students to targeted college, career readiness, and youth development programs.
Each May, thousands of students put on graduation caps and gowns and receive degrees from New York City universities. This month’s Economic Snapshot examines higher education in the City using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey and American Community Survey.
