In conjunction with the New York City Department of Sanitation, NYCEDC is working with the community on a development plan for the Manhattan block bordered by E25th St, the former E26th St, 1st Avenue, and the FDR Drive.
The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) proposes to construct a consolidated garage facility to house sanitation trucks and street sweepers serving the east side. This equipment is currently housed across the city, leading to inefficient trips and increased wear and tear. The facility entrance and exit will face the former E26th St, which also serves as a private drive for Bellevue Hospital. The E25Th St. face of the building will contain a pedestrian entrance for DSNY office workers, the potential for new commercial space, and the length of the sidewalk will receive streetscape improvements including new tree plantings and benches.
