NYCEDC Seeks Developer For Bush Terminal Site in Brooklyn

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the lease and development of an approximately 130,000-square-foot property at the Bush Terminal Complex in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The Bush Terminal Complex is bounded by 41st Street to the north, 51st Street to the south, 1st Avenue to the east and Gowanus Bay to the west. The redevelopment of this property is part of the city’s Sunset Park Vision Plan which outlines a strategy for creating a modern industrial waterfront.

“Building upon and maintaining the city’s working waterfront is a high priority of this administration,” said New York City Economic Development Corporation President Seth W. Pinsky. “The Sunset Park Vision Plan established a strategy and this RFP is an important piece of its implementation. Most importantly, this site represents a great opportunity to create new blue-collar jobs for the region.”

The site is an M3-1district which permits heavy manufacturing and industrial uses. The RFP seeks a development with an industrial, manufacturing, distribution, and/or fabrication facility. The site is currently occupied by three obsolete buildings, which will be demolished prior to lease commencement. In addition, NYCEDC will undertake significant infrastructure upgrades and replacements that will directly improve the site.

There is already a diverse and successful industrial community in Sunset Park, which is home to the Brooklyn Army Terminal (“BAT”), South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (“SBMT”), and Bush Terminal. A wide variety of industrial tenants are present, including Sims Municipal Recycling, Axis Group, and Pool Factory.

Bush Terminal is connected to the national freight rail network through the 51st Street Rail Yard, which provides transportation options to industrial businesses located at the campus.

Additionally, the RFP seeks to expand and preserve quality jobs for local residents through participation in HireNYC. HireNYC is a free program that connects the City's workforce development services to economic development projects, and maximizes permanent employment opportunities for the City’s local and disadvantaged residents.
