World to NYC: Central Eastern Europe
By Patricia Bayley, Senior Project Manager, Center for Economic Transformation
From May 6th to 8th, NYCEDC's International Desk will welcome its first Central Eastern European delegation! Representing such countries as Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany and Romania, the delegates will partake in panel discussions, service provider presentations, company tours, and multiple networking events. Panel discussion topics include an introduction to NYC Startup Scene, NYC Investor Environment, and a candid chat from “expats” who’ve made it in NYC. With three of our panelists now recent authors, we’ll also give the delegates time to meet and greet the experts who literally “wrote the book” on their perspective fields.
Also, in a World to NYC first, the companies will be touring Long Island City to learn more about that area’s burgeoning startup scene. The tour will include a visit to NY Designs, Songza, See.Me and Aereo.
Getting here wasn’t easy; in partnership with European technology accelerator iCatapult, we selected just 15 companies to participate from different fields of technology such as media-tech, mobile-tech, and enterprise-tech.
Starting Monday, May 6th, the delegates will spend three days learning more about the New York City tech scene and the different facets of successfully bringing their tech company to New York City. Stay tuned for updates from their experience.
“Before coming to this program, an office in New York City was just a second option, a ‘Plan B.’ But after attending this program, we know we will be missing a big opportunity if we don’t plan on being here very soon!”
- Carlos Rozo, former World to NYC delegate
