Eighteen startups representing NYC’s diverse leadership in media-tech, fashion-tech, and more joined NYCEDC for the ultimate roadtrip—the Spring 2013 NYC Tech Talent Draft! Over 160 talented technical students from Cornell, Drexel, University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton attended NYC Tech Talent Draft panels and networking receptions to learn about NYC’s booming, innovative tech community, get candid career advice, and meet informally with representatives from NYC-based startups.

The panels featured executives from startups such as Artspace, Baublebar, Birchbox, Brewster, Callida Energy, Floored, Jetaport, Lifebooker, NextJump, SaleMove, Send the Trend, Songza, Triplelift, Updater, Venmo, Visual Revenue, Warby Parker, and Yext. Tech Talent Draft events aligned with startup career fairs at each respective university, providing participants with twice the opportunity to connect with students.

Since the launch of the program in spring 2012, NYC Tech Talent Draft has held three program iterations, hosting a total of 14 events at seven top engineering schools across the Northeast. A total of 66 executives from 62 different startup companies have reached nearly a thousand students to spread the word about NYC’s thriving startup scene and build a pipeline of new hires for their companies. Two-thirds of the attending students majored in computer science, engineering, or math.
