An Inside Look at NYC's Incubators: BXL Business Incubator

What's incubating, NYC?

To date, NYCEDC has helped launch 15 startup incubators and co-working spaces across New York City's five boroughs. Over 1,000 startup businesses supporting 1,500 jobs have benefited from City-sponsored incubators, and these spaces provide affordable working space to innovative and promising entrepreneurs who are building businesses.

This Incubator Series provides an inside look into each unique workspace, the companies they house, and how they promote economic growth in New York City.

The historic American BankNote Building in the South Bronx was formerly home to a minting company that printed foreign currency.

Today, it's bringing entrepreneurs together for a new type of currency: community.

Inside the red brick facade, entrepreneurs work, collaborate, and hustle across a wide range of industries—technology, healthcare, and professional services—with the goal of launching and growing successful new businesses.

As the first City-sponsored business incubator in the Bronx, the BXL Business Incubator primarily acts as a working space for entrepreneurs. More than 50 of them gather daily in the 11,000-square foot facility, an office space that includes 24/7 access to 120 workstations, office technology, conference rooms, and in-house business, legal, and tech support.

But as its tenants will emphasize, the BXL Business Incubator, is more than just an office space. It's a place for sharing ideas and support, designed for collaboration and real camaraderie.

On January 21, 2015, BXL Business Incubator celebrated its 2015 launch and rebranding with its new operator, Business Outreach Center, and NYCEDC as its sponsor. BXL will have in-house counselors and resources to mentor members at all stages of business, from legal and financial consulting to technology and web assistance. Additionally, a robust programming calendar will allow for more networking and learning opportunities for members and the community.
