"I could never have expanded my business in New York without your (NYCEDC/IDA) great program. I expect to be here for many years to come."
Julia Graziano, a native New Yorker, founded Julia Gray Ltd. over 25 years ago, a business dedicated to Julia’s passion – the manufacturing of beautifully crafted, hand-made European style furniture. The company was operating out of a small facility in Long Island City and because of its success, Julia Gray had outgrown its old facility and was looking for a larger space. Since most of the company’s workforce lives near or within commuting distance to the site, Ms. Graziano hoped to find something workable nearby. Unfortunately, costs of operating a larger facility were prohibitive, and Ms. Graziano was considering a move to New Jersey.
With the help of NYCIDA in the form of real estate tax benefits, sales tax exemption, and triple-tax exempt Industrial Development Bonds, Julia Gray was able to purchase a larger facility in Long Island City. Due to this expansion the company not only kept but grew its work force locally and revenues remained in New York City. Julia considers the City the place for her business because of its single most valuable asset, the talent and dedication of its workforce. The company continues to manufacture world-class furniture and is proud to call Long Island City home.
