Studies

Comprehensive Citywide Ferry Study

The Comprehensive Citywide Ferry Study provides information needed to support the development of inter-borough commuter and recreational ferry use.

Scope of the Study

The Comprehensive Citywide Ferry Study provides information and analysis to make planning, policy, and budgetary decisions regarding the future of waterborne recreational and commuter transportation.

The study, which includes an analysis of over 40 ferry landing sites identified by NYCEDC, NYCDOT, the City Council, and the public, evaluates the potential of each site to support commuter and/or recreational ferry service and identifies the service corridors most likely to support ferry service.  A review of financing and governance models is also included.

The Comprehensive Citywide Ferry study is a project identified within The Waterfront Vision and Enhancement Strategy (WAVES), a sustainable blueprint for New York City’s waterfront and waterways – the "Blue Network." Under WAVES, the City will advance projects that maximize the use of the waterways for recreation, transportation, and goods movement.
