The creation of the Manufacturing Innovation Hub represents the City’s commitment to supporting the fashion and manufacturing sectors, key traditional New York City industries, by encouraging innovation and partnership between the public and private sectors

The Manufacturing Innovation Hub for Apparel, Textiles + Wearable Tech is an innovative fashion manufacturing and design hub in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Located at the privately-operated Liberty View Industrial Plaza, the Manufacturing Innovation Hub will occupy 140,000 square feet to provide research, design, development, and manufacturing resources for New York’s emerging designers and apparel manufacturers.

Overview

In December 2011 NYCEDC issued an RFP to allocate funds to create appropriately-sized space for small industrial/manufacturing businesses by incentivizing private industrial owners to subdivide, modernize and activate vacant or under-utilized industrial space. Small businesses with approximately one to ten employees, which occupy less than 5,000 square feet of space, continue to drive the City’s industrial sector growth, though much of the available industrial space is too large for these users.

Manufacture New York, Inc. and/or Salmar Properties, LLC, will receive up to $3.5 million of funding to subdivide and modernize existing underutilized industrial spaces at 850 Third Avenue, Brooklyn (aka Liberty View/Federal Building). The project will result in the activation and subdivision of an approximately 110,000 square feet portion of manufacturing space along  with the creation of a fashion incubator (total 140,000 square feet) and other industrial and ancillary uses.

Manufacture New York, Inc. is a for-profit corporation that operates a hybrid fashion incubator and factory, dedicated to providing independent fashion designers with the resources and skills to streamline the process, from concept to customer. Salmar Properties, LLC is a limited liability company currently owning certain real property and improvements located at 850 Third Avenue, Brooklyn.
