Financing & Incentives

BioAccelerate NYC

The BioAccelerate NYC Prize is a citywide competition that provides funding for biomedical research that has significant commercial promise.

The BioAccelerate NYC Prize is a citywide competition that provides funding for biomedical research that has significant commercial promise.

The goal is to make New York City a center of bioscience that will, in turn, create jobs in the five boroughs. The work supported by the BioAccelerate NYC Prize has reached the “proof of concept” stage, but has not yet reached the point of commercialization. It’s during this in-between stage, known as the “valley of death,” that research often stalls due to lack of funding. Our prize aims to fill that void and enable vital healthcare initiatives to move forward.

BioAccelerate NYC Prize winners receive up to $250,000 in the form of a grant with participation and are paired with mentors who have senior level management experience at life science companies. The mentors provide patent and regulatory expertise, help refine the project’s commercial potential, and develop a business plan.

A condition of funding is that serious efforts are made to locate any associated spin out company in New York City.

The winners are selected by a panel of judges comprised of leading life science venture investors and business executives from the New York Metro area. The judges have extensive experience in identifying biomedical technology with commercial potential and starting successful companies based on these technologies.
