Demonstration Projects

Through funding and hosting a variety of demonstration projects, NYCEDC is developing best practices for overcoming the unique barriers to clean and urban technology deployment in New York City.

  • Lower Manhattan Smart Neighborhood Pilot: The Lower Manhattan Smart Neighborhood pilot will create an integrated, scalable sensor network to support the measurement and analysis of neighborhood conditions, social behavior, and sustainability metrics.

  • Smart Grid Demonstration at Brooklyn Army Terminal: To demonstrate the viability of innovative energy management solutions to the private sector, NYCEDC partnered with Con Edison to develop a Smart Grid installation at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park, including solar and battery storage systems. 

  • Solar Thermal Pilot Program: NYCEDC conducted a Solar Thermal Pilot Program to provide financial assistance to City-based building owners interested in installing solar thermal systems and to better understand the financial, technical and regulatory barriers.

  • Green NYC 2025: In partnership with industry leaders and stakeholders, NYCEDC evaluated New York City’s current position in the global cleantech market, identified the highest-potential opportunities, and recommended actions to accelerate local growth. Download the report
