Lenzie Harcum

Director, Bioscience

Lenzie Harcum brings more than 15 years of experience in the bioscience field to his work, leveraging New York City’s strength as a biomedical research leader into commercial opportunities within the emerging bioscience industry.

Lenzie is engaged in expanding NYCEDC’s public and private-sector partner network by cultivating joint ventures and collaborative relationships with a wide range of bioscience companies, venture investors, academic institutions, professional organizations, and the startup community.

As part of this effort, he is responsible for industry growth initiatives, which include entrepreneurial and outreach efforts designed to support small bioscience companies in the City through a series of workshops, educating business owners how to access National Institutes of Health funding.

Lenzie has led legislative and funding initiatives, including the expansion of a local Empire Zone, which will ultimately bring valuable incentives to build the bioscience industry in the City.

He also collaborates on the City’s efforts to increase commercial lab space, including BioBAT at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, which currently houses the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and the Alexandria Center for Life Science at East River Science Park.

Prior to joining NYCEDC, Lenzie worked as Director in a University of North Carolina program that provided business consulting and training to biotech and technology firms in the Research Triangle Park region. In this role, he directed the program’s Technology Development & Commercialization team, provided oversight of North Carolina’s SBIR/STTR state outreach program, created and managed a pre-seed funding program, assisted the implementation of a Private Investors Education Development program, and provided business consulting to biotech companies.

Lenzie has a B.S. in Business from East Carolina University and holds an MBA from Campbell University.
