October 3, 2011 is the start of Latin Media and Entertainment Week, which celebrates New York City as a hub for Latin media and culture. New York City is the world’s media capital and is home to the largest number of Hispanic and Latino residents in the country, so it is natural for Hispanic media agencies to locate and thrive here.
In 2010, New York City’s Hispanic media agencies took in $37 million in revenues, which was more than twice that of Chicago’s agencies, which were second at $17 million according to Advertising Age’s latest Fact Pack.

Half of the country’s most-watched TV networks by Hispanic viewers are headquartered here, as well as People en Espanol and Latina – the two largest Hispanic magazines. New York is also home to three of the top five Spanish-language radio stations, which have a combined listenership of 134,300.
New York is home to 2.3 million Hispanics who account for nearly 30% of its residents, as of 2010. New York’s Hispanic population is more diverse than that in other large cities: the largest share is Puerto Ricans (34%), followed by Dominicans (25%). In LA and Chicago, the largest share is Mexicans (69% and 73%, respectively).
The Bronx has the highest concentration of Hispanic population of any of the boroughs, but the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Sunnyside in Brooklyn, Corona in Queens, and Port Richmond in Staten Island also have sizeable Hispanic populations.
