GET TO KNOW STATEN ISLAND
  Explore
Staten Island
By Map >

Get a break from the pace of the city without going too far by taking a free ride on the ferry to Staten Island. From the boat you will get a remarkable view of the Statue of Liberty. Once on land, you’ll discover that Staten Island offers the cuisine and culture of the big city, along with the friendly neighborhood feel of a small town.
NEIGHBORHOODS
You’ll find an array of Victorian mansions with gingerbread-trim, wrap-around porches and gable ornaments in many Staten Island neighborhoods. On a sunny afternoon, the South Beach area offers opportunities to stroll along the 2 1/2 mile boardwalk or play a game of bocce ball. For a glimpse of another era, step into the past at the 100-arce living history museum in the village of Richmond.
DESTINATIONS
Make an appointment with the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art and you’ll be treated to the largest selection of Tibetan art outside of Tibet. And for a chance to enjoy dance, music and theater at its best, visit Snug Harbor Cultural Center. It’s a beautiful complex of historic buildings that have been turned into art galleries, performance spaces and museums. For a taste of nature, the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge offers 260 acres of woodland and salt marshes to explore.

NYCEDC IN STATEN ISLAND
NYCEDC is taking an active role in the revitalization of many areas throughout Staten Island. One example is the Bricktown Centre  project, which will bring much-needed new retailers to an area in southern Staten Island. The development will also create around 550 jobs. The Stapleton Waterfront Plan is also working to develop Staten Island by creating a mix of residential and commercial space in the Stapleton area.
