INFRASTRUCTURE POLICY
TELECOM OVERVIEW
Telecommunications underlies the vitality of New York City's neighborhoods and the success of its business and industries. The New York City Clearing House, for example, processes as many as 26 million transactions per day for 1,600 financial institutions around the world. Telecommunications, cable and Internet service companies on their own constitute a $23 billion industry, employing more than 43,000 people in New York City.

Recognizing the value of telecommunications to the City, Mayor Bloomberg announced on April 22, 2005, a new plan to improve the City's telecommunications infrastructure and spur the growth of new telecommunications businesses.
TELECOM IN NYC: A PLAN FOR ACTION
"Telecommunications and Economic Development in New York City: A Plan for Action," is a result of the collaborative efforts of the NYCEDC, the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DOITT), the Department of Small Business Services and the Telecommunications Policy Advisory Group (TPAG).

The plan recommends 21 specific initiatives the City should undertake over the next two to five years, many in cooperation with the State and the private sector.
