STATEN ISLAND FERRY TERMINALS RETAIL
Staten Island Ferry Terminal Retail
Staten Island Ferry Terminal Retail
1 of 7
For over two hundred years, ferry service has connected the northern tip of Staten Island with the southern tip of Manhattan.  Recent redevelopment of the Staten Island Ferry Terminals has created new retail opportunities.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Boroughs: Manhattan, Staten Island
  • Terminals: St. George & Whitehall
  • Opportunities for new retailers
  • Access to 70,000 weekday riders

In 2005, this well-traveled link connecting the two boroughs was infused with new energy when the City of New York unveiled two completely upgraded ferry terminals for the Staten Island Ferry Service.

In addition to providing a more welcoming and state-of-the-art experience for travelers, the new Whitehall Ferry Terminal in Lower Manhattan and St. George Ferry Terminal in Staten Island include attractive opportunities for retailers interested in serving the 19 million riders who use the ferries for free each year.

WORLD-CLASS TERMINALS
IMPECCABLE RETAIL SETTING

Together, the new terminals offer approximately 36,000 square feet of prime retail space in a beautiful and sought-after waterfront setting.

Each terminal features:

  • Soaring ceilings
  • Vast windows
  • Breath-taking views
  • An abundance of natural light

The terminals also offer extensive public seating, both indoor and outdoor, to accommodate both shoppers and those waiting for ferries.

CONSUMER MARKET

Almost 70,000 riders pass through the Terminals each weekday, creating a steady and reliable steam of potential customers. This primary market of consumers includes commuters, tourists and other visitors. Another market unique to the Whitehall Terminal is the daily influx to the area of 300,000 office workers.

In addition, approximately 47,500 residents live in the neighborhoods surrounding St. George and Whitehall Terminals.

A recent survey indicates that residents spend approximately $6 per day on food or merchandise in the ferry system and more than $10 prior to boarding the ferry. Popular items purchased include beverages, baked goods, snack foods, newspapers and other reading materials.

POTENTIAL RETAIL USES

Potential retail opportunities in line with this purchasing behavior include the following:

  • Pharmacy
  • CafĂ©
  • Health/Beauty Store
  • Newsstand
  • Post Office (planned)
  • Shoe Shine Service
  • Sit-down Restaurant
  • Candy Boutique
  • Bakery
