The Greenway Initiative is on one of the primary goals of a comprehensive planning process for the South Bronx and Hunts Point that began with the Hunts Point Vision Plan. This plan, issued by the Mayor in March 2005, was created in cooperation with the community, elected officials and local businesses.
When complete, the South Bronx Greenway will encompass 1.5 miles of new waterfront greenway, 8.5 miles of new green streets, and nearly 12 acres of new waterfront open space throughout Hunts Point and Port Morris. All together, the Greenway will not only create open space, bike paths and new links to the waterfront, but also enhance transportation safety, improve air quality, and produce opportunities for economic development. Short-Term Projects Are Underway Four short-term projects currently in development include:
- Lafayette Avenue
- Hunts Point Avenue
- Food Center Drive
- Hunts Point Landing
