The Planning Committee consisted of community stakeholders, local non-profit groups, elected officials and staff from government agencies and met on a monthly basis between late 2003 and 2004.
In order to maximize public input, the Planning Committee organized a community planning workshop in January 2004. NYCEDC and City agencies are using the comments from the workshop as guidelines for the project’s implementation phases.
The Planning Committee identified three priority areas:
Residential and Commercial Development Including a rezoning plan that expands opportunities for affordable housing and small retail development along the Harlem River waterfront and on Inwood’s main retail corridors.
Waterfront Access and Recreation Including new street end parks at the Harlem River waterfront.
Traffic and Pedestrian Circulation Including key intersection improvements to enhance traffic and pedestrian safety.
Since December 2004, NYCEDC has been coordinating and supporting the implementation efforts of the Department of City Planning, Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Department of Parks & Recreation and Department of Transportation.
