The plan was the result of a community-oriented planning process initiated in 2003 with the creation of the Mayor’s Homeport Task Force, a group of city and elected officials and community and business leaders.
The mixed-use plan – including housing, restaurant/event space, sports complex, retail, commercial and other uses – was devised to activate a currently under-utilized waterfront site and help contribute to the reinvestment of the Stapleton community.
Public improvements are proposed in tandem with development, including a 1.25-mile esplanade, two open spaces and major road reconstruction, all of which will be funded through a $66 million City capital investment.
Plan implementation is expected to result in a $150 million private investment and the creation of 700 permanent and 1,000 construction jobs.
An inter-disciplinary team is now completing the design of the public improvements. The overall project is expected to complete the city approvals process in November 2006, which will allow for the issuance of development RFP’s and the start of site demolition followed by construction of the public improvements.
Public Documents The Notice of Completion for the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was issued on September 14, 2006 by the Deputy Mayor’s Office for Economic Development and Rebuilding. The ULURP process concluded on October 25, 2006 with the City Council’s approval of the actions necessary to allow the project to proceed. |
