 NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Job Readiness Training Coming to Coney Island

Coney Island Development Corporation (CIDC) announced the Job Readiness Workshops, a series of five specialized workshops to prepare Coney Island residents for the community�s first large-scale Career Opportunities Fair to be held on August 1, 2008. Each workshop will focus on a specific topic: Resume Basics, Non-Traditional Employment for Women (N.E.W.), Job Search Techniques, Interview Skills, Dress for Success and How to get a Civil Service Job.

Maritime Support Services Generate $2 Billion for NYC Region

The findings from the economic impact study of NYC�s maritime industry and associated support services provides recommendations for creating a stronger harbor that meets the needs of both residents and the maritime industry. The increased usage of NYC�s waterways to transport freight will help reduce wear and tear on roadway infrastructure, will serve to alleviate regional transportation congestion and will support over 7,000 jobs in the industry.

Major Revitalization Underway in the South Bronx

The South Bronx Initiative identifies three focus areas: Melrose Commons/Third Avenue, the Bronx Civic Center and the Lower Grand Concourse. New developments in the initiative area will provide more than 8,000 housing units, about 800,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, 160,000 square feet of hotel and conference space and also new and enhanced parks and green spaces.

Technical Library Service Investing $4.8 Million in Brooklyn

NYCIDA approved financing assistance to Technical Library Service Inc. (Talas). The assistance will help the company expand and relocate from Manhattan to a new facility in the East Williamsburg Empire Zone in Brooklyn. The company will invest $4,875,000 to acquire a building on Morgan Avenue to handle its current business and allow it to expand into new product lines in the future. The project will create or retain a total of 18 jobs.

Agreement Reached with Willets Point Landowners and Businesses

NYCEwDC has been engaged in active relocation negotiations with many businesses of all sizes since announcing the Willets Point redevelopment plans last year. NYCEDC is pleased to announce the first property acquisition agreements, one with Sambucci Bros. Inc. Auto Salvage and one with BRD Corp. The sales are contingent upon ULURP approval.
