 NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

The Future of Media in NYC

MediaNYC 2020 is a program designed to address the economic challenges facing the media industry and identify areas for promoting the long-term strength of the media and technology industries. A series of workshops and panel discussions will be scheduled with industry leaders from print, television, and Internet media aimed at creating a better understanding of what the media industry will look like in 2020 and how the City and private sector can work together to maintain and enhance New York City’s position as an leader.

Introducing Initiatives to Bolster NYC's Fashion Industry

Strengthening NYC’s Fashion Wholesale Market, a study commissioned by NYCEDC, looked at ways to make the wholesale buying experience in NYC better-organized and more convenient. This resulted in the launch of new initiatives aimed at supporting New York’s wholesale fashion businesses and addressing the needs of buyers from retail stores worldwide. Now, NYCFashionInfo.com is live and acts as a one-stop-shop to keep buyers informed of upcoming Fashion Market Week dates, transportation schedules and contact information for the more than 5,000 wholesale showrooms in New York City.

Keeping Talent in New York City

CareerLinkNYC is a partnership between NYC government and private partners developed to keep talent in NYC during difficult economic times. CareerLinkNYC is a one-stop website that provides essential resources to further career development such as: what to do if you have recently lost your job; are looking for a new job; want to start a business or are thinking about continuing education options.

Preserving Coney Island's Past and Enhancing its Future

The City has acquired Astroland’s famed Rocket Ship ride. It was donated to the City by Carol Hill Albert and Jerry Albert, whose family owned and operated the Astroland Amusement Park from 1962 until its closing in 2008. The Rocket will become a permanent and iconic part of the 27 acre redeveloped amusement district in Coney Island.

Revitalizing Williamsburg's Moore Street Market

NYCEDC, Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), Williamsburg residents and government officials have all worked together keep La Marqueta a staple in this Brooklyn neighborhood. Their combined efforts allowed for the 110 Moore Street Market Corporation LLC to lease the market from the City’s Department of Small Business Services (SBS) and take over responsibility for overall operations and maintenance of the market. This cross over of management will ensure La Marqueta’s preservation and allow merchants to plan for their long-term growth and create new jobs.
