Spurring Innovation in the City

Deputy Mayor, Bob Lieber recently launched the NYC BigApps Competition at a Tech-Meet Up group earlier this month. It is a contest for software developers and members of the public to create web or mobile applications using City data. The developer of the winning applications will receive cash prizes, and Mayor Bloomberg plans to congratulate the winners in person at a dinner.

The Capital of Culture is Sparkling with Opportunities

NYCEDC and the Department of Cultural Affairs announced five initiatives to help artists and cultural institutions in a multitude of ways. Through programs, such as: Curate NYC, JumpStart for the Arts, NYC Performs, Artist as Entrepreneur, and Arts Clusters Promotion Program; the City will provide space for art exhibitions, specialized job training and financial guidance to cultural institutions and artists.

Progress with Staten Island Economic Development Projects

NYCEDC President, Seth Pinsky, addressed the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce about various development project updates. Updates included: recent developments in the New Stapleton Waterfront project, the negotiation of leases with four new retailers at the St. George Ferry Terminal, the expansion of the New York Container Terminal at Howland Hook, and how investments in infrastructure, such as the Arthur Kill Lift Bridge and the Staten Island Railroad, have eliminated 100,000 truck trips per year from the roadways.
