 NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

West Harlem Community Celebrates Opening of West Harlem Piers Park

West Harlem Piers Park, a new $20 million two-acre park, features a docking pier, fishing pier, bicycle and pedestrian paths, public art and landscaped open space that offers new recreational opportunities and greater access to the waterfront. This public space will be enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike while spurring local business and tourism.

Creating and Retaining the City’s Industrial and Manufacturing Jobs

The New York City Industrial Development Agency (NYCIDA) awarded $1.7 million in incentives through its Industrial Incentive Program for Grand Meridian Printing to acquire, renovate and equip the 10,000-square-foot building, purchase an 8-color Heidelberg perfecting press, and construct a 5,000-square-foot second-floor expansion at its new headquarters in Long Island City, at a total project cost of $3.3 million.

NYCEDC Reaches Agreements with Property Owners in Willets Point

NYCEDC has signed property acquisition agreements with two additional property owners in Willets Point, Queens, also known as the “Iron Triangle.” The acquisitions announced bring the amount of land now controlled by the City to 40 acres of the 42 acre site. NYCEDC will continue to reach out to business and property owners in Willets Point to negotiate fair acquisition and relocation agreements.

New Station to Serve Southwest Bronx and Yankee Stadium

Mayor Bloomberg and MTA officials announced the opening of the new Yankees – E. 153rd Street MTA Metro-North Railroad station. The $91 million project, serving the South Bronx and Yankee Stadium is the first railroad station to open in the Bronx in decades. Metro-North will provide train service 365 days a year, serving local residents and encouraging economic development.

New York City Named the North American City of the Future

fDi Magazine, a publication of the Financial Times Group, has recognized New York City as the North American City of the Future. In making its selection, fDi Magazine specifically highlighted the high economic potential of the City, the number of foreign direct investment projects and mega-projects in the City, as well as its large base of post-secondary students. New York City not only took this year’s top overall honor, but it ranked highest in the individual categories of economic potential, human resources, and infrastructure.
