Bristol-Myers Squibb Offers $4.5B for ImClone
NYC-headquartered Bristol-Myers Squibb Company recently announced their proposal to enter into an agreement to acquire NYC-based ImClone Systems Incorporated, a global leader in the development and commercialization of novel antibodies to treat cancer, for $4.5 Billion. The New York City-based companies are partners on Erbitux for use as a colon and head-and-neck-cancer treatment. They are also currently co-developing Erbitux for lung cancer therapy. |

Callisto Pharmaceuticals Subsidiary Raises $3M
NYC-headquartered Callisto, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of new drugs to treat various forms of cancer, announced that its subsidiary Synergy Pharmaceuticals closed a $3 million private placement. The proceeds of the private placement will be used to fund Synergy's compounds to address chronic constipation and constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. |

Key Discovery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
Scientists at New York City's Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University discovered that age-related decline pronounced in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders, may be prevented by maintaining efficient protein clearance in liver cells. Stem Cell Breakthrough Helped by NYC Researchers
Scientists from the New York Stem Cell Foundation along with Columbia and Harvard Universities have produced human stem cell lines from the cells of patients afflicted with a version of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This scientific achievement marks the first time scientists have replicated in a laboratory the specific human cells affected by the disease. See press release for more information. |
