NeoStem Raises $11M |
NYC-based NeoStem recently completed private placement financing totaling $11M from three Asia-based investors. The funds will be used to support the development of NeoStem’s VSEL technology and promote NeoStem’s expansion activities in China. NeoStem has entered into research and development through a license of technology to identify and isolate VSEL (very small embryonic-like) stem cells, which have been shown to have several physical characteristics that are generally found in embryonic stem cells. The company also manages a network of adult stem cell collection centers in the US.

Deputy Mayor Addresses R&D Funding Workshop |
On May 6th, NYCEDC hosted an exclusive one-day workshop covering all aspects of SBIR/STTR proposal preparation. NYC Deputy Mayor Bob Lieber presented opening remarks to over 100 attendees which included NYC bioscience companies and life science academic research faculty. Hosted at Columbia University, the workshop was led by Biotechnology Business Consultants.

NYC to Host Second Annual World Science Festival |
The Science Festival Foundation once again selected NYC for its annual World Science Festival to be held June 10 - 14. The World Science Festival is an annual celebration of science that brings together great minds in science, business, government, and the arts. The inaugural World Science Festival in 2008 attracted over 120,000 people to its 44 events at 22 venues located throughout NYC. NYCEDC is a government partner for the event.
