OLIGOMERIX Receives NIH SBIR Grant
|
|
NYC-based OLIGOMERIX has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant from NIH. The $323,000 grant will seek to develop novel biomarker assays for its drug discovery for Alzheimer's disease (AD). These assays, if validated, may enable disease staging and/or definitive diagnosis of AD.

Columbia University Creates Stockbridge Pharmaceuticals
|
|
Newly formed NYC-based Stockbridge Pharmaceuticals has signed a licensing agreement with Columbia University to commercialize a novel small molecule-based approach for the targeted treatment of various cancers. Initial studies of the therapy in a mouse model of basal-like breast cancer tumors have demonstrated significant shrinkage of tumor mass.

Pfizer to Add Manhattan Employees
|
|
The acquisition of Wyeth by Pfizer, valued at $68B, will result in expanded employment at Pfizer’s Midtown Manhattan offices. Pfizer, headquartered in NYC and the world’s leading drug manufacturer, is planning to fill a 650,000 square foot space it owns in Midtown with employees from Wyeth.

Phreesia Raises $11.6M
|
|
Phreesia, a NYC-based developer of healthcare technology, recently raised $11.6M from BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners and its exclusive fund manager, Sandbox Industries.
Co-founders, Chaim Indig and Evan Roberts, started the company in 2005 after a discussion of the national health care system. In September 2007, Phreesia secured 2nd round funding of $10.25m, bringing total funding to date to roughly $25m.

The 18th Annual New York Biotechnology Association Meeting, will convene on April 20-21 at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
