NY Metro Area Named Nation's Largest High-Tech Workforce
The recently released 2008 Cybercities Report by AeA shows that the New York metro area tops the nation in high-technology jobs. The Report confirms last year's Battelle Report that the New York City metro region has the most bioscience jobs in the nation. |

IRX Therapeutics Raises $25M
New York City-headquartered IRX Therapeutics recently announced it had raised $25 million in a Series A funding round. The new money will be used to further develop IRX's cancer and viral disease product platform, including IRX-2. To date, the Company has raised more than $65 million in private financing. |

SIGA Technologies Receives $8M
New York City-based SIGA Technologies, Inc., a company specializing in the development of pharmaceutical agents to fight bio-warfare pathogens, announced that one of its largest investors, MacAndrews & Forbes LLC, had agreed to supply up to $8.0 million in financing. |

NaniRx Therapeutics Moves to NYC & Raises $6.75M
New York City-based NaniRx Therapeutics, Inc received $6.75M Series A financing in a round led by NGN Capital with participation by The New York City Investment Fund. Nanirx is a drug development company affiliated with Columbia University, and focuses on the treatment of breast cancer and autoimmune disorders. NaniRx recently relocated its operations from New Jersey to New York City. Also, Dr. Steve Goff of Columbia Medical School, a fellow of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, was named to lead Nanirx's Scientific Advisory Board. |

BIO 2008 Exposes Over 20,000 to NYC's Bioscience Initiative
The 2008 BIO International Convention brought together 20,108 industry leaders with attendees hailing from 70 countries and 48 states. NYC Bioscience Initiative's booth drew considerable traffic with its prominent speakers from the New York Academic Consortium (NYAC) and fast-growing NYC-based companies. |
