ImClone to Merge with Eli Lilly

NYC-based ImClone announced that it has entered into a merger agreement with Eli Lilly and Company. Much speculation has been building over the acquisition in recent weeks. See article for more information.

Phosphagenics Raises $7.5M

Phosphagenics Limited, with US headquarters in NYC, has raised $7.5M. The company's core technology is phosphorylation, a process where the addition of a phosphate group has been found to enhance the bioavailability, efficacy and safety of existing pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. NYU Ranked #1 in Patent Revenue

Forbes recently reviewed the top 15 patent-revenue-generating universities. New York University topped the list with $157M in research-related income on $210M in R&D expenditures. See article for more information.

NYC Hosts Key Biotech Events

Several high profile biotech events were recently hosted in New York City over the course of just one week. These events included the Lasker Awards ceremony with Mayor Bloomberg delivering the keynote; the multi-day UBS Life Science Investors Conference with over 3000 attendees; the Windhover Pharmaceutical Strategic Alliance event which attracted 450 C-levels of pharma and biotech; and the Prix Galien USA Awards.

NYC Tops List of Cities

New York City was awarded the highest ranking in the Global Urban Competitiveness Project. The study ranks 500 cities on their ability to attract and use resources to generate wealth. See article for more information.

NYC Company Spotlight: Innate Pharma

Innate Pharma, a French biopharmaceutical company developing first in class drugs targeting the innate immune system, recognized the importance of having their US headquarters in NYC. "New York City is a global hub where one can easily keep in touch with France and Innate Pharma's team, as well as establish a close relationship with the US West Coast. New York City was an obvious entry port into the USA," said Jerome Tiollier, President. Founded in 1999, Innate Pharma has a cash position of $60M and opened their NYC location this past May.
