IAVI to Become First Tenant in Brooklyn Bioscience Center

New York City based International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) has entered into a lease to become the first tenant at BioBAT, a new bioscience center to be housed at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. BioBAT is a collaboration between NYCEDC and SUNY Downstate through the SUNY Research Foundation and is located in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. IAVI plans to develop a world class AIDS Vaccine Development Laboratory focused on accelerating the development of the next generation of promising AIDS vaccine candidates.

"IAVI's decision to become a tenant at BioBAT reinforces our commitment to establishing a bioscience center at the Brooklyn Army Terminal," said NYCEDC President Robert C. Lieber. "BioBAT will provide the bioscience companies at SUNY Downstate space to grow when they have outgrown their incubator space. I commend IAVI for its commitment to New York City and BioBAT."

NexGenix Pharmaceuticals Raises $3.9 Million

New York City based NexGenix Pharmaceuticals, a privately held biotechnology company focused on developing drugs to treat neurofibromatosis and related sporadic tumors, recently announced the closing of a non-brokered private placement of its Series B Preferred Stock totaling $3.9 Million.

Enzo Biochem Raises $15 Million

Earlier this year, New York City headquartered Enzo Biochem raised $15 million in a registered direct offering to a leading life sciences institutional investor.  Enzo also successfully closed on the sale of $46 million of its common stock in a registered direct offering to institutional investors in 2006

Enzo Biochem is engaged in the research, development and manufacture of innovative health care products based on molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques, and in providing diagnostic services to the medical community.

Oligomerix Receives NIH Award

New York City based Oligomerix Inc. announced the receipt of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant from the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health (NIH), to develop high throughput technology for drug discovery for Alzheimer's disease. 

In 2006, Oligomerix and forty other bioscience companies were introduced to NIH SBIR officials at the NYC NIH SBIR Conference delivered by NYCEDC and ITAC.

OLIGOMERIX, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company founded in 2006 located within the Audubon Biomedical Science and Technology Park at Columbia University Medical Center. The Company is exploiting its novel research that allows rapid generation of stable amyloid OLIGOMERS as targets for drug discovery.

Ortec International Raises $8.7 Million

New York City based Ortec International, Inc. recently completed a private placement of $8.7 million and also announced the appointment of Dr. Constantin Papastephanou as its new Chief Executive Officer.  Ortec International, Inc. is focused on advancing regenerative medicine through the development of cellular technology and advanced biomaterial products.

IDEA To IPO Training - New York Academy of Sciences Program

Fall 2007 - FROM IDEA TO IPO: THE TECHNOLOGY VENTURE
This course is specifically designed for science entrepreneurs who want to build businesses that commercialize university-owned intellectual property.  The course will give Ph.D. students, postdocs, and other professionals a deeper understanding of the issues involved in determining how to take the right idea from the laboratory to the marketplace.
