East River Science Park Revolutionizes Bioscience in NYC
A ground breaking was recently held at the Alexandria Center for Science and Technology at the East River Science Park, a state-of-the-art 1.1 million square foot complex that will serve as the cornerstone of the City's thriving bioscience cluster. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver were on hand for the $700 million project that will create 1,800 construction jobs and house more than 2,000 bioscience sector employees. Economic Development Administration Supports NYC Bioscience
The United States Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded $2 million in federal grants for development of the East River Science Park (ERSP) and the reconstruction of East 28th Street which will provide vital access to the site. In addition to ERSP, the EDA has invested federal funds in several NYC bioscience projects, including those at SUNY Downstate and CUNY. |

Pfizer wins Prix Galien USA Award
New York City based Pfizer, Inc. recently won the award for Best Pharmaceutical Agent at the inaugural Prix Galien USA awards ceremony held at Cipriani in New York City. The award was presented to Pfizer for Chantix, a prescription medicine that helps adults quit smoking. |

Antigenics Secures Financing and Enters Phase II Clinical Trial
Antigenics Inc. announced that the Brain Tumor Research Center at the University of California, San Francisco initiated a Phase II clinical trial of Oncophage, their investigational patient-specific cancer vaccine for the treatment of brain tumors. Antigenics, a New York City based company that recently completed $5 million in financing, develops treatments for cancers and infectious diseases. |

Keryx Enters into Multi-Million Dollar Licensing Agreement
Keryx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. recently entered into a licensing agreement with Japan Tobacco and Torii Pharmaceuticals for development and commercialization of a Hyperphosphatemia Drug in Japan. The deal includes up to $100 million in license fees and potential milestone payments. |
