 NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Tishman Speyer Selected as Developer of West Side Rail Yards

Mayor Bloomberg recently announced the selection of Tishman Speyer to develop the West Side Rail Yards. The Tishman Speyer proposal will construct more than 12 million square feet of commercial, residential, retail, cultural and community space while preserving the High Line’s linear open space. The proposal also includes 379 units of affordable housing and will pursue a LEED Gold standard for sustainability.

NYC Investment Firm Acquires Signature Midtown Property

New York City based Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. and the Carlyle Group recently acquired a 600,000 square foot office tower at 650 Madison Avenue, GlobeSt.com reported. The property was acquired for $680 million and is located in Midtown, spanning 59th and 60th streets. Office tenants in the building include Polo Ralph Lauren’s corporate headquarters and Columbia Presbyterian.

Financial Companies Move to Madison Avenue

Monarch Alternative Capital and Banco do Brasil recently signed two new leases totaling 27,000 square feet at 535 Madison Avenue. Monarch Alternative Capital signed 15,000 square feet and will occupy the entire 26th floor while Banco do Brasil leased 12,300 square feet and will occupy the entire 34th floor. The 475,000 square foot building was built in 1982 and is situated on the corner of 54th Street and Madison Avenue.
