Antigenics With First Cancer Vaccine Approval/Raises $21 Million

New York City headquartered Antigenics Inc. recently announced approval for the use of Oncophage to treat kidney cancer. With approval by the Russian Ministry of Public Health, Oncophage is the first cancer vaccine available in any major country. The company also announced that it would raise $21 Million in a private placement. Proceeds will be used for commercial and regulatory efforts and to launch Oncophage in Russia. Intra-Cellular Therapies Begins Phase II Trial

New York City based Intra-Cellular Therapies has begun a Phase II clinical study on ITI-722, a non-sedating drug for the treatment of sleep maintenance insomnia (SMI). Read the Intra-Cellular Therapies press release for more information.

Phosphagenics Announces First U.S. Clinical Trial

Phosphagenics Limited, an Australian biotechnology company that recently opened an office in New York City, announced the initiation of a human clinical trial for its lead dermatological product. Phosphagenics is also developing a number of other product candidates utilizing its targeted, non-systemic delivery technology, including multiple anti-inflammatory and analgesic compounds.

2008 NYC R&D Funding Conference a Success

The 2008 NYC R&D Funding Conference, presented by NYCEDC and ITAC, recently held on March 18 was a success! Attendees learned about research funding sources available for commercial bioscience companies, including SBIR, STTR and QETC. The event, held at Columbia University's Lerner Hall, drew over 100 attendees. Presentations from the conference will soon be available at www.itac.org.

Company Profile: Oligomerix, Inc.

Oligomerix, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing drug discovery targets and therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The company recently received an NIH SBIR award of $233,598 to develop drug discovery for Alzheimer's disease. In November 2006, the company raised its first equity funding. Oligomerix is headquartered at Audubon Business and Technology Center of Columbia University in Manhattan and is also funded by venture seed investment.
