Robert C. Lieber Appointed Deputy Mayor for Economic Development

Mayor Bloomberg named Robert C. Lieber to be the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, replacing outgoing Deputy Mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff. Lieber will lead the City's economic development efforts and oversee and coordinate the operations of several city agencies.

Innovative Entertainment Destination Planned for Coney Island

A design team has been selected to transform Steeplechase Plaza into a signature component of a revitalized Coney Island. The 2.2 acre site will be a new, one-of-a-kind civic and entertainment destination between Keyspan Stadium and the famous Coney Island Boardwalk. Uses may include a performance space, seating areas, and amusements.

$1.45 Billion Deal to Bring Upscale Retail to World Trade Center

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently approved a $1.45 billion deal with The Westfield Group, one of the world's largest mall operators, to develop upscale stores and restaurants in the new office towers being built at the World Trade Center. Nearly 500,000 square feet of retail space will be developed at three skyscrapers and in concourses connecting the buildings to a transit hub. Construction is expected to begin this month and will be completed in five years.

PR Giant Edelman Moving to Lower Manhattan

Global public relations firm Daniel J. Edelman recently signed a lease for 127,000 square feet at 250 Hudson Street and will occupy the top four floors of the building. Edelman will move its headquarters in 2009 from its current midtown location at 1500 Broadway.

Verizon Remains Committed to Lower Manhattan

Verizon recently renewed its lease at the Moinian Group's 90 John Street in Lower Manhattan, according to a story reported by globest.com. Verizon's commitment to Lower Manhattan sheds light on the continued resurgence of the neighborhood as a commercial, residential, and transportation hub.
