Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Mandarin Oriental is especially pleased to have forged the strong and lasting partnerships with the City of New York that have contributed to the development of our hotel, and helped to bring employment opportunities to New York, recruiting from the diverse culture and collective sophistication of local residents, we have assembled a staff of the very finest ambassadors of New York City energy, warmth and hospitality.

BUSINESS NEED
Long before the Mandarin Oriental Hotel opened its doors as one of the City's newest luxury hotels in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle, it sought the help of NYC Business Solutions in identifying a pool of qualified local candidates for open positions at the hotel. Jobs ranged from wait staff, sous chefs and floral designers to lead mechanics and house security officers.
SOLUTION
NYC Business Solutions recognized the critical role this 251-room luxury hotel would play in the revitalization of Columbus Circle and pursued an aggressive campaign to make hiring a qualified workforce as efficient and easy as possible for the Mandarin Oriental.

Using their knowledge of the hospitality industry and Mandarin's predetermined criteria as guidelines, NYC Business Solutions screened a large pool of candidates and referred the matches for interviews. They also joined forces with local elected officials and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to bring local community based organizations and culinary/hospitality schools into the recruitment and candidate vetting process.

By the time Mayor Bloomberg cut the ribbon at the grand opening on December 1, 2003, these referrals resulted in 268 hires out of the 389 jobs that Mandarin brought to the City. Highly qualified candidates found positions in every aspect of the hotel's organization, including management trainee slots.
