Best Choice
BUSINESS NEED

In 1991, Lee Fong, a native of China’s Foo Chow region immigrated to New York when he was 17 years old, had just graduated from SUNY Albany and the economy was in the throws of a recession.  So he decided to start his own business, Best Choice. Over the years, this wholesale food business, offering frozen seafood to Chinese restaurants, grew and began to face a serious space shortage problem. Mr. Fong was considering moving the business from its home in Bushwick, Brooklyn to northern New Jersey.

SOLUTION

Instead, with the help of the NYCIDA, Best Choice purchased an adjacent property and converted it into an 8,000 square-foot freezer to both store additional inventory and support the company’s impressive growth. This also made the business more efficient and more environmentally friendly by reducing the truck trips from their rented freezer space. Additionally Mr. Fong was able to keep the equivalent of 20 full-time jobs and create the equivalent of 20 additional full-time jobs; good news of his employees, his company and the City he loves.
