Not-For-Profit
The not-for-profit sector plays a vital role in maintaining and promoting the vibrancy and health of New York’s communities.

With the 110 education institutions, almost 1400 arts and cultural institutions, over 100 hospitals and thousands of human service organization, the not-for-profit sector generates and preserves the City’s intellectual and cultural capital and improves the quality of life for all New Yorkers.

On September 30, New York City Economic Development Corporation in conjunction with the Department of Cultural Affairs announced six initiatives to foster continued dynamism and growth in New York City’s arts sector.

The initiatives outlined below aim to support the growth of arts and cultural not-for-profits and encourage the thriving artist culture which has made the City the global art capital.

PROMOTING ARTS CLUSTERS

NYCEDC has created a program to promote New York City neighborhood arts clusters.   The program encourages local arts organizations to collaborate with local businesses and their Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) to spur economic activity.  Together, these community stakeholders will develop a tourism incentive program and marketing campaign aimed at attracting local and regional tourists (and tourist dollars).

JUMPSTART FOR THE ARTS

Run by the Levin Institute, this program begins with training “boot-camp,” culminates in a 10-week unpaid apprenticeship with an arts organization and provides City’s arts organizations with a ready, pre-screened pool of high-quality candidates.
